One of the fun things about having an empty nest is going out to eat at places that don't serve french fries. My friend Renee told me about Trattoria Centrale when I saw her last Wednesday. Since the Music Man is out in Dallas at the North Texas Irish Festival this weekend we planned to meet here for Sunday Brunch. She brought her mother and another friend, Emily along with her.
It was quite an adventure for me since it's downtown Birmingham. I felt rather sophisticated saying I was meeting friends downtown for brunch.
This was also adventure eating for me. I know some people eat all kinds of strange and wonderful combinations of gourmet type food, but I don't think I'd have ever thought of putting biscuits and sausage gravy on the same plate as mixed greens with Italian dressing.
I had fried eggs with salsa rosso over sausage corn bread. It was yummy.
Renee had a frittata with goat cheese, bacon, grits and fresh fruit. I don't think I've ever eaten goat cheese but it was good in this.

Trattoria Centrale is located at 207 20th Street, North in Birmingham, Alabama. There is an outside seating area, but the inside dining area is tiny so be prepared for that if you go at night or during cold weather.

Sounds a little "different" but looks delish! May have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's not your mother's brunch place. It's kind of edgy and funky, but in a good way. The ingredients were all really fresh.
